EOM: Just Dance!

Exercise of the Month – April

In fitting fashion for this month’s topic we’re tacklin’ cardio… and hittin’ da club! πŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒ

Now I know that might seem counterintuitive for some of you and that’s okay! Just please note – I said “hittin’ da club!” and “tacklin’ cardio” – NOT Jell-o shots, tequila shots, Cosmos, or Modelos πŸ˜‚

Just “tacklin’ cardio.”

If you follow my Instagram account, you may have seen the post from back in February where some friends and I made an appearance at Spin Nightclub in Middletown (Washington Street and the 5). I been going to this place for oh… well… it’s been a few minutes for sure 😜 I like it because it’s a BIG club with 3 levels, 3 separate bar areas, 2-3 different DJs playing simultaneously, and because they’re open till 5:00am on select nights. The bonus is that if you’re an electronic music aficionado like I am, you’ll more than likely appreciate the DJ talent that comes through.

But I digress…

Dancing at Spin Nightclub in San Diego

Why is being open until 5am a big deal? Because it means you can kick some serious arse in terms of the cardio requirement by spending the better part of the evening shakin’ ya booty!

On that particular night back in February, I easily put in 15,000+ steps. I say 15,000+ because my watch resets the step count at midnight and since we got there relatively early at 10:00pm, I have no idea how many steps I put in for those 2 hours.

In any case, all I’m saying is that if you’ve got a favorite spot which caters to your music tastes, by all means – go and shake ya booty! And you know what, even it the music may not be EXACTLY what you want, but IS something you can handle for an hour or two each week, only two words – why not?

As an example, Rich’s in Hillcrest typically has no cover on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays meaning you can flash your ID and get right to shufflin’.

So you may be saying, “Riiiiight… and we’re not supposed to drink?”

That, sis, is completely up to you. I’m not anti-alcohol, however I DO believe there’s a time and a place for everything. In other words, if your purpose for being at Spin or Rich’s is to have a drink or two with some friends on the weekend, then go have a drink or two with some friends on the weekend.

However, if your purpose is to go and get your cardio on, then go and get your cardio on.

Haven’t you ever seen that gaggle of older ladies, power walking through your neighborhood, chattin’ up a storm while walking faster than some people drive on the 805?

Now’s your chance to get a gaggle of gays together and go power dance your way through the night!

BONUS SUBJECT – Alcohol

Alcohol, first and foremost, before it even enters your body, is a toxin; think about it – we can set it on fire and it’s vapors can be explosive.

So even though humans may have found a way to make alcohol not only drinkable, but also flavorful, it is STILL a toxin. This means your body will work to metabolize it OUT before it works on any food you eat.

To read a little more about alcohol and getting your head in the right place before heading to the club on school/work night, check out this read.

And if you want your own personal bouncer to keep you away from the bar on a weeknight at Rich’s, hit me up! If it’s the weekend, you’re on your own honey! πŸ˜‰
