about
vision
To help create a society educated on the fundamentals of exercise and nutrition and, as a result, help reduce the incidence of various disease conditions associated with sedentary and unhealthy lifestyles.

mission
To help everyone, especially my LGBTQ+ fam, achieve their fitness, strength, and/or conditioning goals within specific timeframes in their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, improved appearance, and/or increased athletic performance.
the back story
I had a very personal experience with heart disease. My dad had his first heart attack (AND double bypass surgery) at the age of 36. He died in an operating room accident at the age of 49 during his SECOND bypass surgery.
In the 13 years between surgeries, my mom encouraged me to be mindful of both my food and exercise. Since I was a kid, it was far from perfect! 😂 However, today, there’s really no reason why anyone should go through anything similar to what our family went through. It all starts with slowing things down a bit (a challenge in today’s digital world) and thinking about what we do with our time and how it relates to what we eat and how me move.
coming out
In 2021, in the midst of COVID and five years after my own personal coming out story, my personal training business “Level One Training and Fitness” celebrated it’s 10th birthday and came out as thatgaytrainer. I had discovered that while there were many LGBTQ+ trainers in the San Diego area, none explicitly identified themselves or their businesses as such. I decided that it was time for me to make myself known and “thatgaytrainer” was born.
Why? I’m glad you asked! When we identify ourselves as anything other than heterosexual or straight, a landslide of often hidden social, cultural, religious, political, mental, and/or substance issues suddenly becomes more visible. These challenges can be deeply personal and have significant effects on our health, especially in the realm of exercise and nutrition.
the million dollar question
We each have one body for life. The question you need to candidly ask and answer for yourself is: “Will I trash it or will I treasure it?” My job is to help you become an even more fabulous star of your life than you thought possible!
